Bangkok (HRNW)- The US aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln departed Thailand on Sunday after a five-day visit, with around 5,000 US sailors aboard.
According to AFP, the carrier arrived at Laem Chabang port near Pattaya on Wednesday, allowing personnel to rest and relax following a deployment of around nine months at sea, including an extended mission in the Middle East.
The arrival was also expected to provide a boost to businesses in Pattaya during the relatively low tourist season. Security measures were tightened ahead of the visit, while authorities also conducted a crackdown on sex workers. Pattaya’s mayor denied that the measures were linked to the arrival of US sailors.
The USS Abraham Lincoln left Laem Chabang port at around 11am on Sunday.
