Jamaat-e-Islami Announces Major Islamabad Protest Against Inflation, Warns of Strike and Road Blockade

Islamabad (HRNW)- Jamaat-e-Islami chief Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman has announced a major protest in Islamabad against inflation and said that there is also the option of strike and road blockade. Addressing a press conference in Islamabad, Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman said that due to the increase in the prices of petroleum products, severe inflation is occurring in the country, the entire burden of which is being put on the people. He said that according to the global market, the price of petrol is Rs 271 per liter, but by imposing a levy of Rs 117 and other taxes, petrol is being sold to the people at Rs 401 per liter.

The Jamaat-e-Islami chief raised the question that the prices of petroleum products have not increased in India and Bangladesh, so are the effects of war and global conditions affecting only Pakistan? Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman announced that a major protest against inflation will be held in Islamabad on May 15. He warned that if the demands were not accepted, the Jamaat-e-Islami would also consider launching a strike and a wheel-jam movement. He said that the people were no longer in a position to bear the rising inflation and the government must immediately provide relief to the people by reducing petroleum levies and taxes.
