Dhaka (HRNW) – The Bangladesh Foreign Ministry has summoned Indian High Commissioner Pawan Badhe over what it described as insulting remarks made by the Chief Minister of India’s Assam state. According to media reports, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma stated on the social media platform X that “these people do not understand the language of love” and that 20 foreign nationals had been detained and pushed back to Bangladesh.
A Bangladeshi Foreign Ministry official said that Director General (South Asia) Ishrat Jahan conveyed Dhaka’s position to the acting Indian High Commissioner during a meeting. The official further termed the remarks as offensive to Bangladesh and expressed strong displeasure over the statement, urging restraint in public comments between the two countries.
