Major Decision by Sindh Govt: Total Ban on Sale of Syllabus and Uniforms Within Private Schools

KARACHI (HRNW): The Government of Sindh’s School Education and Literacy Department has issued a stern notification to all private educational institutions across the province, effectively banning the commercial sale of textbooks, notebooks, uniforms, and stationery within school premises. This move aims to curb the monopolistic business practices often adopted by private schools.

Freedom of Choice for Parents:

According to the official notification, school administrations are strictly prohibited from compelling parents to purchase items from specific shops or designated vendors. Schools are now legally bound to provide a comprehensive “Book List” and stationery requirements to parents at the beginning of the academic session, allowing them the freedom to purchase these materials from the open market at competitive prices.

Ban on Branded Stationery:

The Education Department has further clarified that forcing parents to buy notebooks embossed with a specific school’s monogram or logo is an illegal practice. This measure is intended to alleviate the growing financial burden on parents and bring transparency to the overall cost of education in the province.

Strict Penalties and Cancellation of Registration:

The Directorate of Private Institutions has issued a final warning to all school owners, stating that any violation of these directives will lead to severe legal consequences. Penalties for non-compliance include heavy fines and the potential cancellation of the school’s registration.

While parents and social activists have widely welcomed the government’s intervention, there is a strong public demand for the formation of active monitoring teams to ensure these orders are strictly implemented on the ground, preventing private schools from bypassing the new regulations.
