United Nations (HRNW)- The United Nations Security Council will convene an emergency meeting on Monday amid growing global concern over the US military action in Venezuela and its potential impact on the international order.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has warned that recent developments in Venezuela could set a dangerous precedent for international law. According to his spokesperson, the Secretary-General is deeply concerned that the US action may destabilize the region and violate the principles of the UN Charter.
The emergency meeting was requested by Colombia, with the support of China and Russia, while Venezuela has also formally appealed to the Security Council.
The session will be held under the agenda item “Threats to International Peace and Security,” and the Secretary-General is expected to brief Council members on the situation.
