Karachi (HRNW) — Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has introduced new restrictions on the number of cigarettes its cabin crew members may carry while on flight duty, following reports alleging the involvement of some crew members in cigarette smuggling.
According to a circular issued by PIA, cabin crew members will be permitted to carry only one packet of cigarettes, containing a maximum of 20 cigarettes, while on flying duty. Carrying more than the prescribed limit will not be permitted.
The circular states that cabin crew members found carrying cigarettes beyond the permitted limit could face strict disciplinary action. Violations may result in suspension or removal from flying duties.
The restriction has reportedly been introduced following information concerning the alleged use of airline crew members for cigarette smuggling.
