Caracas (HRNW)- The death toll from the devastating June earthquakes in Venezuela has risen to more than 6,000, while rescue and recovery operations continue across the affected areas.
According to media reports, National Assembly President Jorge Rodriguez said that emergency response, rescue, and recovery efforts remain underway. According to Reuters, Rodriguez stated that approximately 61,000 people were hospitalized following the twin earthquakes.
He added that authorities have so far cleared 16.5 percent of the debris left by the disaster, while extensive recovery operations are continuing.
On June 24, two powerful earthquakes measuring 7.2 and 7.5 magnitude struck Venezuela less than a minute apart, causing widespread destruction in the northern coastal city of La Guaira, near the capital Caracas.
The twin earthquakes caused severe damage to homes, infrastructure, and public services, prompting a large-scale emergency response that remains ongoing.
