Tehran (HRNW)- Iran has proposed the creation of a NATO-style joint military alliance of Muslim countries, saying a regional security framework led by Islamic nations is essential for lasting peace and stability in the Middle East.
According to the Iranian News Agency, Acting Defense Minister Brigadier General Seyyed Majid Ibn-e-Reza proposed establishing a joint security alliance comprising Iran, Türkiye, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and other Islamic countries.
General Seyyed Majid said that only the countries of the region are capable of ensuring security in the Middle East, adding that the presence of foreign military powers has contributed to greater instability.
During a telephone conversation with Turkish Defense Minister Yaşar Güler, the acting defense minister said the recent conflict had demonstrated that regional security should be based on cooperation among neighboring countries rather than dependence on foreign military forces.
He proposed the formation of a comprehensive regional security system involving Iran, Türkiye, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and other Islamic nations, saying such an alliance could protect the region from external interference and help establish lasting peace.
The Iranian minister added that the ceasefire memorandum with US President Donald Trump had been reached at the request of friendly and neighboring countries to restore regional stability and peace. However, he said Iran does not fully trust the agreement due to the United States’ past actions.
The acting defense minister also condemned Israeli military operations in Gaza, Lebanon, Syria, and Iran, alleging that US support has enabled Israel to adopt a more aggressive posture.
He warned that any US attempt to open a new front against Hezbollah could push the Middle East into a broader security crisis.
He further described Israel’s proposed security zone policy in Syria and Lebanon as a step that could trigger wider regional instability.
