Russia Alleges Foiled Ukrainian Assassination Plot Amid Ongoing Conflict

Moscow/Novorossiysk (HRNW)- Russia’s security service has claimed that Ukraine attempted to assassinate a senior Russian government official, but the plot was foiled.

According to the FSB, Ukrainian agents were allegedly planning the attack while the Russian official was visiting the graves of his relatives near Moscow.

The FSB further claimed that Ukraine was preparing more similar attacks inside Russia. However, the Ukrainian security service rejected the allegations, saying that Russia was “continuously fabricating fake news.”

The claim came at a time when Kiev was once again under Russian air strikes. According to Ukrainian officials, at least four people were killed and 27 injured in the latest attacks, including two children and a pregnant woman. More than 15 buildings and a medical center were also hit in different parts of the city.

On the other hand, a Ukrainian drone attack damaged an oil depot in the Russian port city of Novorossiysk, while four people were injured.

Targeted killings and kidnappings have increased significantly during the war between Russia and Ukraine. According to the monitoring group ACLED, targeted killings inside Russia in the first three quarters of 2025 were higher than the total for the previous three years combined.

Several Russian officers have been killed in car bombings and secret operations in recent months, for which Ukraine has claimed responsibility. On the other hand, there have also been incidents of killings of security personnel in Ukraine, which Kiev has blamed on Russian agencies.
