FIA and NCCIA Face Embarrassment as Court Grants Bail to Investigative Journalist Nadir Khan

Karachi, Pakistan (HRNW) — The District and Sessions Judge South has granted bail to investigative journalist Nadir Khan, marking a significant legal setback for the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA). The case against Nadir Khan was reportedly registered at the behest of Assistant Director FIA Syed Ali Mardan and Director Karachi Muntazir Mehdi, under charges that the court found to be baseless and in violation of standard operating procedures. As the second journalist in Karachi to be targeted through the controversial “sword” of the PECA Act in recent times, Nadir Khan’s legal relief is seen as a victory for press freedom against coercive tactics. The judiciary’s decision to grant bail effectively thwarted what many observers described as an attempt to suppress investigative reporting through institutional pressure.
