Islamabad Court Acquits Domestic Helper in Alleged 250 Million Rupee Theft Case

Islamabad, Pakistan (HRNW) — Judicial Magistrate East Rizwan-ud-Din has acquitted a domestic helper, Rukhsana Bibi, in a high-profile theft case involving an alleged 250 million PKR, labeling the prosecution’s story as “unbelievable” and “suspicious.” The case, originally registered in January 2024 at the Lohi Bher Police Station, involved a resident of PWD who claimed her employee had stolen 400,000 PKR, 500,000 British Pounds, and 500,000 Saudi Riyals from the premises. Despite these massive figures, investigations only recovered a mere 2,000 PKR from the accused, which held no legal standing.

In a scathing written judgment, the court remarked that it defied common sense for someone to keep such vast amounts of foreign currency at home and hand the keys to a domestic worker without providing any documented proof of the money’s existence. Following arguments by defense counsel Habib Hanzala Advocate, the court noted that the prosecution failed to produce a single witness or piece of evidence despite being indicted on September 18, 2025. Consequently, the court ruled that continuing the trial would be a waste of judicial time and acquitted Rukhsana Bibi under Section 249-A of the Code of Criminal Procedure, reaffirming the legal principle that the benefit of the doubt must always favor the accused.
