Baghdad (HRNW)- Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi has made it clear that Iraq will not allow its territory or airspace to be used for military attacks against any neighboring country.
According to Iranian media, the Iraqi prime minister made the remarks during a visit to the Air Defense Command Operations Center, where he reviewed Iraq’s air defense capabilities and the evolving regional security situation.
Ali al-Zaidi said Iraq’s policy is based on protecting national sovereignty, maintaining regional security and preserving good relations with neighboring countries. He emphasized that no party would be permitted to use Iraqi territory or airspace to carry out military action against another country.
The meeting also discussed plans to further strengthen Iraq’s air defense system. Iraqi officials said improving airspace surveillance and defense capabilities amid rising regional tensions is among the government’s priorities.
Iraq’s strategic geographical position and its borders with several countries affected by regional tensions have increased the importance of monitoring its airspace and preventing unauthorized military activity.
The prime minister’s statement comes amid growing concerns over the potential use of the territory and airspace of regional countries in military operations.
According to the Iraqi government, the policy is intended to prevent Iraq from becoming directly involved in regional conflicts while protecting its sovereignty and national security.
Analysts say strengthening Iraq’s air defense capabilities and maintaining strict control over its airspace will remain particularly important as continued military tensions in the Middle East could increase the risk of unauthorized activity over Iraqi territory.
