Former SHC Judge Challenges Early Removal from Sindh Revenue Board Tribunal

Karachi (HRNW) – Former Sindh High Court (SHC) Judge Aftab Ahmed Gorar has approached the court to challenge the Sindh government’s decision to remove him from his position as Chairman of the Sindh Revenue Board (SRB) Tribunal before the completion of his term. The petitioner informed the court that after serving as a judge for over a decade, he was appointed to lead the tribunal for a three-year term following the recommendation of the Chief Justice of the SHC. However, the provincial government terminated his services on February 6, well before his tenure was set to expire.

In his petition, Justice (Retd) Gorar argued that a chairperson can only be removed prematurely on the grounds of misconduct or medical unfitness. He contended that his dismissal, based on a preferential government decision, is illegal and sets a concerning precedent. Conversely, the Sindh government maintained that it holds the legal authority to both appoint and remove individuals from such posts. Government counsel stated that the removal was executed with the formal approval of the provincial cabinet and followed all necessary legal protocols. After hearing the arguments from both sides, the court has reserved its judgment on the matter.
