Karachi (HRNW)- Muhajir Qaumi Movement Pakistan Chairman Afaq Ahmed has reiterated his support for the creation of a South Sindh province, saying his party had previously launched a movement and signature campaign for the demand. He made the remarks while addressing a women’s convention in Shah Faisal Town, Karachi.
Afaq Ahmed said the proposed South Sindh province had been a longstanding position of his party and argued that decisions about the country’s future should reflect the views of its population rather than being controlled by a small number of political families. He also called for an end to what he described as repeated political experiments.
He said effective governance requires citizens to have access to essential services, including water, healthcare, education, and employment, and called for leadership that remains accountable to the public.
The MQM Pakistan chairman also emphasized the importance of free and fair elections, saying confidence in the electoral process could encourage greater voter participation. He argued that meaningful political change depends on citizens believing that their votes can influence the direction of government.
Speaking about Karachi, Afaq Ahmed raised concerns over deaths during street robberies and accidents involving heavy vehicles and questioned whether those responsible were being held accountable. He also referred to casualties associated with the Pakka Qila incident, while criticizing what he described as inadequate attention to Karachi’s problems.
He further called for the repatriation of Pakistanis stranded in East Pakistan, saying they should also be recognized as Pakistani citizens. He urged members of the Muhajir community to remain united and demanded greater representation in political and economic affairs, including employment opportunities.
Afaq Ahmed criticized aspects of Sindh government policy and called for greater authority for elected local government representatives in Karachi. His remarks come amid an active political debate in Sindh over provincial divisions and the creation of new administrative units. The Sindh Assembly recently adopted a resolution opposing the division of the province and the creation of new provinces.
On women’s participation, he urged women to take a more active role in political and social affairs and called for measures against discrimination, injustice, and domestic violence. He also advocated appropriate representation for women in education and government employment.
Afaq Ahmed said increased political awareness and participation among women could contribute to the future direction of the community and wider society.
