Islamabad (HRNW)- The International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD) and the European Union’s border and coast guard agency, Frontex, have commended Pakistan’s measures to curb illegal immigration.
Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi held separate meetings with ICMPD Director General Susanne Raab and Frontex Executive Director Hans Leijtens, during which the sides agreed to strengthen cooperation to prevent illegal immigration.
Naqvi said Pakistan had achieved a 64 percent reduction in illegal immigration despite limited resources, describing the effort as a challenging task that required sustained work by the relevant authorities.
He said the government’s next objective is to achieve a 100 percent reduction in illegal immigration, while emphasizing the need to create more opportunities for legal migration as a means of reducing irregular migration.
The Interior Minister also stressed the importance of modern technology, improved training for officers, and stronger institutional capacity to enhance border management and prevent illegal migration more effectively.
He said further practical measures and coordinated cooperation among relevant institutions would be necessary to completely address the issue.
The ICMPD director general praised Pakistan’s efforts to combat illegal immigration, while the visiting delegation also commended the Federal Investigation Agency’s (FIA) risk analysis report.
