Islamabad (HRNW)- Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Yahya Afridi has announced that a judicial bench will also sit in the evening to facilitate the speedy hearing and disposal of cases.
Addressing a full-court meeting, Chief Justice Yahya Afridi said the policy for scheduling cases has been published online and that cases are no longer fixed for hearing on the basis of his personal directives.
The Chief Justice also rejected claims that judges take three months of leave, questioning the basis of such reports and clarifying that judges actually take one month of leave during a three-month period.
Justice Yahya Afridi noted that at one point, 75 cases had been scheduled before a single bench in one day. He said the case-scheduling policy is available online and that two officers double-check the cases included in the cause list.
The Chief Justice announced that a dedicated bench is being constituted to deal with requests for early hearings and that the bench will also conduct proceedings during evening hours.
He further announced that the Shariat Appellate Bench will convene for one week every two months as part of efforts to address cases more efficiently.
