Tehran (HRNW)- Iran has warned South Korea that any participation in US military operations in the Persian Gulf or Strait of Hormuz, or the establishment of an independent South Korean military presence in the region, could be considered support for US aggression against Iran and lead to serious consequences.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghai said in a statement on X that South Korean participation in any military operation in the Gulf or Strait of Hormuz would amount to direct involvement in a war against Iran.
The warning comes as South Korea considers possible measures to protect maritime traffic and shipping through the Strait of Hormuz. Seoul officials have said several practical options are being reviewed, but no final decision on a military deployment has been made.
The Strait of Hormuz is strategically important to South Korea because a significant portion of its energy imports passes through the route. Ongoing tensions have increased concerns over maritime traffic and global energy supplies.
