Karachi (HRNW) — A Karachi anti-narcotics court has sentenced nine accused to life imprisonment and fines in a case involving the alleged smuggling of drugs abroad through the sea route.
During the hearing, the prosecutor informed the court that the Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) had arrested the nine accused in 2023 and recovered 525 kilograms of narcotics and 48 kilograms of heroin from their possession.
The defence counsel argued that the accused were poor fishermen who had been falsely implicated in the case. The defence also pointed out that no boat had been seized in connection with the case.
In its judgment, the court held that the prosecution had successfully established the charges against the accused and subsequently sentenced all nine to life imprisonment.
The court also imposed a fine of Rs2 million on each accused.
