Qatar Calls for Greater Gulf Self-Reliance in Security Amid Iran War

Abu Dhabi (HRNW)- Qatar’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Majid Al-Ansari has said the conflict with Iran has demonstrated that Gulf Arab countries should not rely solely on their strategic partnership with the United States for security.

Speaking at a panel discussion at the Hailey Forum in Abu Dhabi, Al-Ansari said the presence of global powers and strategic alliances with the US remain important, but are not sufficient to ensure the complete security of Gulf states.

He emphasized the need for greater self-reliance in the security sector, including stronger regional defense cooperation and enhanced local capabilities. According to Al-Ansari, the recent conflict has highlighted the importance of strengthening the Gulf region’s defense and security preparedness.

His remarks came amid continuing tensions between Iran and the United States, which have raised concerns over regional security, maritime traffic and stability in the Gulf.
