Tehran (HRNW)- Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf has warned the United States that any attack on Iranian assets could put US oil and gas interests in the region at risk.
In a statement on social media platform X, Qalibaf said US oil and gas companies operating in regional waters and facilities could also face risks amid the current tensions. He warned that Iran would respond if its assets were targeted, claiming that Tehran had already demonstrated its ability to retaliate, although he did not provide details of the bases he said were no longer usable.
Qalibaf’s remarks came after US Defense Secretary Pat Hegseth threatened to destroy Iranian oil tankers if Iran continued attacking US naval vessels.
The exchange of threats has heightened concerns over further escalation between Iran and the United States, while shipping through the Strait of Hormuz and global oil supplies remain under pressure. According to Reuters, daily commercial shipping traffic through the strait has fallen to around 10 vessels following the recent tensions.
