Islamabad (HRNW)- The Islamabad High Court has summoned Director General Immigration and Passports Muhammad Ali Randhawa in a contempt of court case over the alleged non-implementation of an order directing the removal of citizens’ names from the Passport Control List (PCL).
Justice Azam Khan issued the orders while hearing petitions filed by Afnan Khan, Khurram Shahzad and Hadi Hussain. The petitioners’ lawyers argued that despite the court’s order, their names remained on the PCL, prompting them to file contempt petitions.
During a subsequent hearing, Justice Azam Khan questioned the implementation of court orders and noted that 16 contempt petitions were pending before his court, while more than 100 were pending in the High Court.
The government’s lawyer informed the court that a committee formed by the Ministry of Interior was reviewing cases and had decided 346 matters, with the minutes of its meeting awaited. The court observed that a committee could not scrutinize or override a judicial decision.
The court directed the authorities to implement the order by Monday and submit a compliance report. Justice Azam Khan warned that if the order was not implemented, a contempt notice could be issued and an unconditional apology would not be accepted.
