Karachi (HRNW): The Karachi Bar Association (KBA) has rejected the decision to suspend the Station House Officer (SHO) of Gulbahar Police Station following the alleged assault on a former member of the Association’s Managing Committee. The Association has demanded the registration of a criminal case against the officer and announced that its strike will continue until legal action is taken.
Speaking to the media, KBA President Aamir Nawaz Waraich alleged that the Gulbahar SHO physically assaulted a member of the Bar by slapping, punching, and kicking him, and also detained him unlawfully. He stated that suspension alone was insufficient and insisted that a formal criminal case be registered against the officer.
The KBA President further announced that the lawyers’ strike would remain in effect until an FIR is registered against the SHO. He also said that, as part of the protest, no police officer would be allowed to enter the City Court premises in Karachi.
The Karachi Bar Association called for a transparent and impartial investigation into the incident and urged the authorities to ensure that those found responsible are held accountable in accordance with the law.
