New Hamas Leader Khalil al-Haya Says Lasting Middle East Peace Depends on Palestine

Gaza City (HRNW)- Newly elected Hamas leader Khalil al-Haya, in his first comprehensive speech after assuming office, said that lasting peace and stability in the Middle East cannot be achieved without peace and stability in Palestine.

According to Arab media, Khalil al-Haya said the current situation in the region demonstrates that the stability of the Palestinian people is the foundation for stability across the Middle East.

Addressing the international community, the Hamas leader said that even if a ceasefire is reached, international standards of justice lose their significance if the people of Gaza are not protected.

Khalil al-Haya assured the people of Gaza that Hamas would use every possible means to end their hardships, suffering, and misery, adding that a dignified life is the basic right of every Palestinian and that his leadership would continue working toward that goal.

He stated that his top priority is to bring a complete end to the ongoing Israeli military operations in Gaza. He added that Hamas would continue its efforts for the rights of Palestinians in Gaza, the occupied West Bank, Jerusalem, and those held in Israeli prisons.

Calling for unity among Palestinian political parties and national factions, Khalil al-Haya said Palestinian national unity is one of his leadership’s highest priorities, extending a hand of cooperation to all groups because unity is the source of Palestinian strength.

The Hamas leader also thanked Egypt, Qatar, and Turkey for their mediation efforts, saying they have been working continuously to stop the bloodshed in Gaza and secure a ceasefire.

Khalil al-Haya urged the countries facilitating the ceasefire negotiations to exert real pressure on Israel to fully implement the agreed terms, saying meaningful progress can only be achieved when all commitments are honored.
