Karachi Police Launch Special Inquiry Into Handling of Drug Trafficking Suspect Anam Alias Pinki

KARACHI (HRNW) – A special investigation team formed on the directives of the Karachi Police Chief has launched an inquiry into the controversial handling and court appearance of a highly wanted suspect arrested on drug trafficking charges.

According to details, the investigation team will record statements from the suspended SHO, sub-inspector, and members of the police party involved in the case. Authorities will also examine why the accused was allegedly presented in court in violation of established procedures.

The inquiry will investigate why the accused was brought to court in handcuffs and with her face covered. Investigators have also decided to review CCTV footage from cameras installed at the Garden Police Station.

According to officials, the inquiry will determine where and how the accused was kept inside the police station and how police officers and personnel treated her during custody. The investigation will also examine why officials at Garden Police Station allegedly violated rules and regulations.

The Karachi Police Chief had earlier constituted the special investigation team under the supervision of SSP South Mahzoor Ali.

However, SSP South Mahzoor Ali was later removed from the inquiry over alleged procedural violations during the court appearance of the accused, identified as Anam alias Pinki.

DIG West Irfan Ali Baloch has now been appointed as the new inquiry officer to investigate negligence and misconduct by police personnel related to the incident.

Officials said the inquiry officer has been directed to submit a detailed report within three days. A formal notification regarding the appointment was issued by Additional IG Azad Khan.
