KARACHI: (HRNW) The pedestrian bridge located on the main road of Gulistan Society, Quaidabad, has reached a dangerous state of disrepair after surpassing its designated lifespan, sparking fears of a potential disaster among local commuters.
According to area residents, the bridge exhibits severe structural damage, including deep cracks in the concrete and a heavily rusted iron framework. The safety railings are broken or missing in several sections, making the crossing hazardous for the hundreds of citizens, including students and elderly individuals, who use the facility daily to cross the busy main road.
Demands for Immediate Action:
-
Urgent Inspection: Residents have called upon the Mayor of Karachi and relevant municipal authorities to conduct an immediate safety audit of the structure.
-
Reconstruction or Repair: The community demands either a complete reconstruction of the bridge or, at the very least, sustainable and high-quality repairs to ensure the safety of human lives.
-
Accountability: Local inhabitants warned that if a mishap occurs due to negligence, the responsibility will lie solely with the concerned authorities for failing to act despite repeated complaints.
The deteriorating condition of such essential infrastructure in a high-traffic zone like Quaidabad highlights the urgent need for a dedicated maintenance schedule for pedestrian bridges across the city.
