Lahore (HRNW) — Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has directed authorities to make the province drug-free, following which Punjab Police have intensified operations against drug dealers across the province, officials said.

According to a spokesperson for Punjab Police, 34 drug peddlers were arrested during the last 24 hours, and 34 cases were registered. Police recovered 49 kilograms of cannabis, 2 kilograms of crystal meth (ice), along with 7 kilograms of heroin and 1.5 kilograms of opium from the suspects.
The spokesperson further stated that over the past two weeks, the ongoing crackdown has resulted in the arrest of 1,200 drug dealers, with 1,228 cases registered. During this period, police seized 1,807 kilograms of cannabis, 47 kilograms of ice, 207 kilograms of heroin, and 23 kilograms of opium.
Punjab Police also reported that 13 drug dealers were killed during operations against narcotics networks.
Inspector General of Police Dr. Usman Anwar has instructed law enforcement to maintain high-intensity operations against major drug dealers and smugglers, dismantle the entire supply chain, and ensure strict legal action and severe punishment for those involved.
Special emphasis has been placed on cracking down on drug sales near educational institutions and hostels, as well as taking strong action against online drug trafficking, police officials added.
