The United Nations Security Council is holding a new briefing on the Middle East, including the Palestinian question, as renewed violence in Gaza raises fresh concerns over civilian safety and the fragile ceasefire.
UN Security Council records show the Council’s programme for 10 September includes a dedicated Middle East briefing. The meeting comes after reports of renewed Israeli strikes in Gaza, including an attack in Beit Lahiya in which Palestinian health officials said four members of one family, including two children, were killed.
The latest violence is occurring despite the ceasefire framework that has reduced the scale of fighting since October 2025. Both Israel and Hamas continue to accuse each other of violating the agreement.
The Security Council’s discussion comes as diplomatic efforts continue to prevent further escalation and address the wider humanitarian situation in Gaza.
