Mexico City (HRNW)- At least 10 people were killed and 64 others injured in a powerful explosion during a religious festival in the Temascalcingo area of Mexico State.
According to media reports, the explosion occurred Saturday night near a church while religious ceremonies were underway and a large crowd had gathered to watch fireworks. The blast also caused part of the church wall to collapse.
Initial reports suggest that a fire involving a traditional firework bull may have ignited additional fireworks stored inside the church. Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the explosion.
Two priests were among those injured, while several victims, including children and elderly people, were taken to hospitals for treatment.
