Karachi (HRNW)- The Sindh High Court has reserved its verdict on a constitutional petition challenging alleged illegal and discriminatory load shedding by K-Electric and claiming violations of regulatory and legal requirements.
Petitioner Syeda Maria Raza argued that consumers who regularly pay their electricity bills are also facing load shedding and alleged that K-Electric connections were provided to areas with outstanding dues, affecting the petitioner’s locality in Gulshan-e-Iqbal.
The petition alleged that changes in the area’s electricity category due to electricity theft through illegal hooks violated K-Electric’s Distribution Rules 2005 and NEPRA regulations. It requested the court to impose penalties on K-Electric under Section 40(2) of the NEPRA Act and restrain the company from unjustified and discriminatory load shedding.
K-Electric’s counsel argued that NEPRA had already issued a stay order in favor of the petitioner and therefore questioned the maintainability of the petition. After hearing arguments from both sides, the court reserved its decision.
