Karachi (HRNW)- Senior Sindh Provincial Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon has criticized federal ministers from the MQM and PML-N over their statements concerning the 18th Amendment, alleging that some of them are not genuine public representatives.
Speaking during the Sindh Assembly session chaired by Speaker Syed Owais Qadir Shah, Memon said the provinces became autonomous following the 18th Amendment and highlighted progress in Sindh’s health, education, energy and infrastructure sectors. He cited the generation of more than 3,500 MW of electricity from Thar, saying the power is being supplied to the national grid for the benefit of the entire country.
Memon challenged federal ministers who have objections to the 18th Amendment or provincial powers to raise their concerns in Parliament, saying Sindh Assembly representatives are capable of responding constitutionally, legally and with relevant data. He also criticized what he described as “artificial mandates” and called on federal ministers to seek public support through elections.
During the session, Jamaat-e-Islami member Muhammad Farooq raised the issue of Pakistani citizens allegedly being held by Somali pirates for around four and a half months and called for immediate government action.
Speaker Owais Qadir Shah also expressed concern over the electricity crisis and load-shedding in Sindh, directing that the heads of power companies be summoned before the relevant committee. The session was later adjourned until Tuesday afternoon.
