Tehran (HRNW)- Iran’s military has claimed that its air defense systems intercepted and neutralized several US cruise missiles and drones in different parts of the country, including an MQ-9 Reaper drone in western Iran.
According to Iranian media reports, the Iranian Army’s Air Defense Force said its National Air Defense Network shot down an MQ-9 Reaper drone in the western region of the country on Sunday and also intercepted a US cruise missile in the same area.
The statement further claimed that the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Aerospace Force shot down another MQ-9 Reaper drone near Ahvaz in southwestern Iran, as well as an alleged enemy reconnaissance drone in the southern operational areas of Boyer Ahmad province.
According to the Iranian military, the drones were intercepted and forced down, preventing what it described as enemy surveillance operations in southern Iran.
The statement also claimed that Iran’s air defense forces carried out record operations during the recent conflict, alleging that during what it described as a 40-day campaign by the United States and Israel, Iranian air defense units shot down hundreds of drones, including MQ-9 Reaper, Hermes, and Lucas models.
Iran further claimed that its forces destroyed several US military aircraft during the conflict, including F-35 stealth fighters, F-15s, F-16s, and aerial refueling aircraft. These claims have not been independently verified.
