Karachi (HRNW): During a hearing at the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) involving the Mustafa Aamir murder case and six other pending cases, the accused, Armaghan, leveled serious allegations of corruption, extortion, and bribery against the central jail administration.
Accused Alleges Systemic Extortion in Jail
The accused, Armaghan, was produced before the court from prison under tight security. During the judicial proceedings, Armaghan addressed the honorable judge and claimed that the prison administration demands bribes for basic rights and routine procedures.
“They even demand money just to present me before the court for my scheduled hearings,” Armaghan stated in his official statement, adding that the prison staff expects money for virtually everything inside the facility.
Emotional Courtroom Exchange Between Mother and Son
The statement triggered an emotional response from Armaghan’s mother, who was present in the courtroom. Believing her son was questioning her own financial sacrifices, she emotionally intervened and asked:
“Do we come to see you out of greed for your money?”
Armaghan immediately clarified his stance to reassure his mother, replying:
“My mother and my lawyer have no greed for money. I was not referring to you.”
The accused further clarified a misunderstanding from the previous judicial session, stating:
“During the last hearing, I did not speak about my mother or my lawyer regarding money. There was a misunderstanding in how the honorable court perceived my words; even at that time, I was explicitly speaking out against the extortion by the jail administration.”
Defense Counsel Seeks Order on Case Transfer
Following the exchange, the defense counsel, Khurram Abbas Advocate, requested the court to expedite administrative rulings regarding their pending applications. The lawyer urged the honorable court to issue an official order on the application submitted for the transfer of his client’s cases to another branch.
