Tensions Rise as Israel Warns of Renewed Gaza War, Palestinian Groups Reject Disarmament Demand

Gaza Strip (HRNW)- Tensions in the Gaza Strip have escalated after Israel reportedly warned of resuming military operations and demanded that Palestinian resistance groups surrender their weapons, a condition that Palestinian factions have strongly rejected as political pressure. According to reports, although a ceasefire has been in place since October last year, the situation on the ground remains highly volatile, with intermittent attacks, drone activity, and explosions continuing to be reported in several areas, particularly in Khan Yunis and Deir al-Balah. Medical sources say that more than 800 Palestinians have reportedly been killed since the ceasefire began, underscoring the fragile nature of the truce.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has reportedly canceled key security meetings in favor of limited consultations, while military officials have indicated that if Hamas does not agree to surrender, renewed conflict is increasingly likely. Reports also suggest that under a new U.S.-backed proposal, humanitarian aid, reconstruction efforts, and the reopening of border crossings in Gaza would be tied to the gradual disarmament of Hamas. However, Hamas and other Palestinian organizations have firmly rejected the proposal, stating they will not lay down their arms without a complete ceasefire and meaningful progress toward the establishment of a Palestinian state.
