Trump Announces Increase in Tariffs on European Cars and Trucks to 25%

Washington (HRNW) – US President Donald Trump has announced plans to increase tariffs on cars and trucks imported from the European Union, escalating trade tensions between Washington and Brussels. According to media reports, Trump accused the European Union of failing to fully comply with a previously agreed trade deal, prompting the decision to impose higher duties.

Trump stated that, due to what he described as Europe’s non-compliance with the trade agreement, tariffs on European vehicles entering the United States would be raised to 25 percent next week. He shared the announcement on his social media platform, calling it a necessary step to protect American trade interests.

In response, a spokesperson for the European Commission told AFP that if the United States takes actions contrary to the joint agreement, the European Union will consider all available options to safeguard its economic interests. It is worth noting that the trade agreement reached last summer had capped US tariffs on EU automobiles and parts at 15 percent.
