Sindh High Court Seeks KMC Response Over Dangerous Billboards on High-Rise Buildings

Karachi (HRNW): On Thursday, the Sindh High Court (SHC) sought clarification from the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) in response to a petition filed by the Pasban Democratic Party (PDP). The petition, submitted by PDP Chairman Altaf Shakoor, challenges the installation of hazardous billboards on high-rise buildings across the city.

A two-member division bench of the SHC, comprising Justice Abdul Mubeen Lakho and Justice Muhammad Jafar Raza, heard Constitution Petition No. 2594/2025.

PDP’s lawyer, Khurram Lakhani, told media outside the court that multiple government departments appeared before the bench. KMC, however, argued that the issue of billboards does not fall directly under its jurisdiction.

The court instructed KMC to provide its official stance, questioning who would be held responsible if these loosely installed billboards on high-rise rooftops were to fall, causing loss of life or property. The hearing was adjourned until March 11, 2026.

Altaf Shakoor highlighted that previous court rulings had prohibited the installation of loose billboards on high-rise buildings, but certain elements within government departments continue to allow this illegal practice. He demanded immediate action against these individuals to protect human lives.

He further stated that PDP will continue to raise its voice on citizens’ issues and take all possible measures to safeguard urban safety and citizens’ rights.
