Through its new campaign, the organization aims to expand assistance for civil society organizations, independent journalists, and democracy advocates facing increasing repression in many parts of the world. Recent policy statements also call for greater international support for individuals working to uphold democratic values and fundamental freedoms.
Freedom House noted that authoritarian practices, restrictions on civic space, and attacks on independent media continue to threaten democratic governance globally. The organization is expanding programmes that provide emergency assistance, digital security, legal support, and advocacy for activists operating in high-risk environments.
The NGO also highlighted findings from its Freedom in the World 2026 report, which documents continuing global challenges to political rights and civil liberties. Freedom House called upon governments, international institutions, and civil society to strengthen democratic institutions, protect independent judiciaries, and uphold freedom of expression and peaceful assembly.
