MPA Sajjad Ali Soomro Alleges PKR 1.5 Billion Mismanagement in Lyari

KARACHI (HRNW): Member of the Sindh Assembly (MPA) Sajjad Ali Soomro has leveled serious allegations of corruption and administrative negligence against local political figures, claiming that Junaid JD and Hammad ND Khan have pushed Lyari to the brink of destruction. Speaking to the media, Soomro alleged that PKR 1.5 billion allocated for “road cutting” and infrastructure repairs has been misappropriated or deliberately withheld.

According to the MPA, this substantial amount had been kept in the Sindh Bank Khadda Market branch (Lyari UC-10) for the past two years. He claimed that instead of being spent on urgent public welfare projects, the funds were blocked under the pretext of launching a new “Lyari Transformation Program.” Soomro criticized this delay, stating that while grand programs are announced on paper, the residents of Lyari are suffering from a complete lack of basic necessities, including water, gas, and electricity, alongside overflowing sewage and rising unemployment.

The MPA urged the provincial government to prioritize immediate relief and address the crumbling infrastructure before initiating “ornamental” new projects. He noted that even within government circles, there have been admissions regarding the historical embezzlement or wastage of funds intended for Lyari’s development. Soomro demanded a transparent audit of the funds to ensure that the allocated billions are used to alleviate the hardships of the local population rather than being lost to bureaucratic red tape or corruption.
