Tehran (HRNW)- Iran has executed a man convicted of killing a security officer during nationwide protests in 2022.
According to the Iranian judiciary’s spokesperson and Mizan News Agency, the man sentenced to death was convicted of shooting and killing a member of the security forces during the 2022 protests.
The Iranian judiciary said the court handed down the death sentence after completing the trial, reviewing the evidence, and fulfilling all legal procedures. Authorities confirmed that the sentence has now been carried out.
The protests began in September 2022 following the death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini, who died while in the custody of Iran’s morality police after being detained for allegedly violating the country’s hijab laws.
The incident triggered widespread public outrage across Iran, leading to large-scale demonstrations, many of them led by women, which later evolved into a broader anti-government movement.
During the protests, clashes erupted in several cities, resulting in hundreds of deaths and thousands of arrests. Iranian authorities also accused some protesters of attacking security personnel and damaging government property.
