HYDERABAD (HRNW) — Sindh Provincial Minister for Prisons Ali Hassan Zardari visited Central Jail Hyderabad to review the facilities, administrative arrangements and welfare measures being provided to inmates.
During his visit, the Provincial Minister conducted a detailed inspection of the jail kitchen. He reviewed sanitation arrangements, the quality of food items and cooking procedures and issued strict instructions to the concerned authorities to ensure the provision of quality, balanced and nutritious meals to prisoners in accordance with the law.
Ali Hassan Zardari also met people who had arrived at the jail to visit inmates. He inquired about their well-being, listened to their concerns and directed the jail administration to make the visitation process more transparent, accessible and convenient, particularly for relatives travelling from distant areas.
Speaking on the occasion, the Provincial Minister said that prisons are not merely places of punishment but are also reformative institutions. He said the welfare of prisoners and protection of their human rights remain among the government’s priorities.
He further directed the jail administration to strengthen security arrangements and enhance initiatives focused on the rehabilitation, reform and welfare of inmates.
Human Rights Angle
Deprivation of liberty does not deprive prisoners of their fundamental human rights. Access to adequate food, sanitation, a safe environment, family visits and humane treatment are essential elements of a fair and reform-oriented prison system.
HRNW believes that regular monitoring, transparent complaint mechanisms and consistent standards across prisons are essential to protecting prisoners’ dignity and supporting their rehabilitation.
