KARACHI (HRNW)- Sindh Assembly member and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Sajjad Ali Soomro has strongly condemned what he described as alleged police violence against PTI workers, mistreatment of women activists and action against political workers in Karachi.
Sajjad Ali Soomro alleged that PTI Karachi Additional General Secretary Rao Azam was subjected to severe physical violence, while Aqeel Awan was also allegedly assaulted, resulting in a fractured leg.
He further alleged that Soldier Bazaar SHO Waqar Azim pulled a PTI dupatta/scarf from the neck of a female party worker, calling the alleged incident shameful, condemnable and unacceptable.
Sajjad Ali Soomro said that political differences were separate from the issue, but alleged mistreatment of a woman in such a manner could not be tolerated under any circumstances.
According to Soomro, PTI workers were allegedly subjected to harsh treatment and violence in Karachi on September 6 during the visit of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi.
He said using force to prevent political workers from engaging in peaceful political activities was contrary to democratic values.
Sajjad Ali Soomro demanded the immediate suspension of Liaquatabad SHO Shaukat Awan and Soldier Bazaar SHO Waqar Azim, along with a transparent and impartial investigation into the alleged incidents. He also called for legal action against any police officials found responsible.
He added that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf would not remain silent over what it described as alleged injustices against its workers and would raise the matter before every constitutional and legal forum.
