Karachi (HRNW) – A compensation claim has been heard before the Senior Civil Judge (East) / City Court Karachi regarding an accident during the construction of the BRT Red Line project, in which an overseas Pakistani citizen lost one eye.
The plaintiff has sought a compensation amount of Rs1.787 billion from the Sindh Government, BRT administration, and the project contractor, alleging negligence and failure to ensure public safety measures during the construction work.
The plaintiff’s lawyer, Advocate Usman Farooq, informed the court that the claimant, Syed Waqar, had come to Pakistan in 2025 to perform Hajj. According to the lawyer, while travelling to the airport on a night in May 2025, his vehicle collided with a construction barrier placed on University Road during the BRT Red Line project.
The counsel argued that the barriers placed in the middle of the road had neither reflective signs nor warning boards, creating a serious safety hazard for commuters. As a result of the accident, the plaintiff lost one eye and suffered severe facial fractures.
The lawyer further stated that during the execution of the BRT Red Line project, necessary requirements for the protection of public property and the safety of citizens were not properly fulfilled.
The court has been requested to award Rs1.787 billion in damages to cover medical expenses, rehabilitation costs, permanent disability, and other losses suffered by the victim.
