Karachi (HRNW) — Jamaat-e-Islami has submitted a resolution to the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) seeking the abolition of the petroleum levy. The resolution was submitted to the City Council by Jamaat-e-Islami Deputy Parliamentary Leader Taimur Ahmed.
The resolution demands that the federal government immediately stop collecting the petroleum levy and taxes imposed under other heads on petroleum products.
It states that uncontrolled inflation has already made life extremely difficult for ordinary citizens, while rising petrol prices, reportedly linked to the impact of the US attack on Iran, have further increased public hardships.
According to the resolution, the government’s continued collection of petroleum levy and other taxes in addition to the actual price of petrol is regrettable and reflects what Jamaat-e-Islami describes as the government’s indifference and insensitivity toward public problems.
The resolution calls for immediate measures to provide relief to citizens by ending the additional taxes and petroleum levy on petroleum products.
