Sicaya (HRNW)- At least six people were killed, more than 30 injured, and nearly 300 people were left homeless after a 5.5-magnitude earthquake struck Peru, according to media reports.
Authorities said the earthquake’s epicenter was near Sicaya, where several homes were destroyed, while a historic church and convent suffered severe damage.
Rescue teams have been deployed to the affected areas and are continuing search and rescue operations, clearing debris in an effort to locate possible survivors.
Peru is located along the Pacific Ring of Fire, one of the world’s most seismically active regions, where earthquakes of varying intensity occur frequently.
