Amman (HRNW)- The US military has confirmed that two American service members stationed in Jordan were killed, one remains missing, and four others were injured following an Iranian ballistic missile attack on a US military installation.
According to the International News Agency, Iran launched missile attacks on US military bases and installations in Jordan on Friday as regional tensions continued to escalate.
In a statement, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) said American forces were conducting defensive operations against Iranian attacks when a ballistic missile struck their position.
The statement said two US service members were killed at the scene, while four others sustained injuries and one remains missing. The wounded personnel were immediately transferred to hospitals in Jordan, where two are reported to be in critical condition.
CENTCOM added that the identities of the deceased service members will not be released until their families have been formally notified.
There has been no immediate official response from Iranian authorities regarding the US military’s statement. Meanwhile, rescue teams and military personnel continue search operations for the missing service member.
The latest attack follows Iran’s retaliatory strikes targeting US military bases and interests in Jordan, Kuwait and Bahrain in response to recent US military operations.
