Karachi (HRNW): The Sindh High Court has taken a firm stance against illegal constructions, directing that the cost of demolishing unauthorized buildings in Qasba Colony be recovered directly from the salary of the officer found responsible.
According to an ARY News report, a constitutional bench of the Sindh High Court disposed of a contempt of court petition filed against the Director General of the Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) and other officials.
Counsel for the petitioner argued that despite the court’s previous orders, illegal construction activities continued in Qasba Colony and the relevant authorities failed to fully implement the court’s directives.
During the hearing, the government’s counsel informed the bench that action had been initiated in compliance with the court’s orders and that further proceedings were underway. However, when the bench questioned who would bear the cost of demolishing the completed illegal structures, counsel for the SBCA failed to provide a satisfactory response.
Expressing its displeasure, the court ordered that the expenses incurred in demolishing the illegal constructions be deducted from the salary of the responsible officer. The bench also reiterated that its previous directives must be implemented strictly and without delay.
