Karachi (HRNW)- The Sindh Assembly has unanimously passed a resolution rejecting any form of division of Sindh and reaffirming that the province’s existing boundaries will remain unchanged.
The resolution was presented by senior PPP leader Nisar Ahmed Khuhro after four days of debate on proposals for new provinces and administrative units. The resolution states that Sindh is a historic and indivisible land and declares that the province will remain united.
The debate saw strong opposition from PPP lawmakers to any proposal that could lead to the division of Sindh. Government members repeatedly emphasized their commitment to the unity and territorial integrity of the province.
MQM members, while also stating that they do not support dividing Sindh, argued for the creation of new administrative units within the province to improve governance and address public grievances. They maintained that such proposals should follow the constitutional process and reflect the will of the people.
Opposition Leader Ali Khorshidi criticized the resolution, calling it unnecessary and arguing that the MQM’s demand concerns greater administrative and political empowerment rather than the division of Sindh. He called for existing administrative divisions to be strengthened in line with the spirit of the 18th Amendment.
When Khuhro presented the resolution, 105 PPP members were present in the assembly, while opposition members had walked out. The resolution was subsequently approved, with PPP lawmakers raising banners and slogans in support of Sindh’s unity.
The resolution declares that Sindh will remain one and that no change will be made to its current boundaries.
