Tyre (HRNW)- A Lebanese soldier was killed while an officer and another soldier were injured in an explosion near an army vehicle in southern Lebanon.
According to the international news agency, the incident occurred in the Mansouri area of the Tyre district, where a suspicious object suddenly exploded near a Lebanese military vehicle.
In a brief statement, the Lebanese army confirmed that a full investigation has been launched into the incident. However, authorities have not yet released definitive information regarding the nature of the explosion or those responsible.
Meanwhile, Lebanese broadcaster Al-Manar reported that the blast was likely caused by unexploded ordnance allegedly left behind by the Israeli army, although this claim has not been officially confirmed.
The Lebanese army said one soldier was killed at the scene, while an officer and another soldier were rushed to hospital with serious injuries. One of the injured is reported to be in critical condition.
The incident comes despite a ceasefire agreement reached between Israel and Lebanon through US-mediated talks in Washington. However, tensions remain high, and Israeli military operations have continued.
Months of clashes and airstrikes between Israel and Hezbollah have left large quantities of unexploded ordnance in border areas, posing an ongoing threat to both military personnel and civilians.
The Lebanese army has also suffered casualties in previous Israeli attacks, with several soldiers killed and injured. The Lebanese government has previously lodged protests over such incidents.
