Islamabad (HRNW): Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has taken immediate notice of the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority’s (NEPRA) newly issued regulations concerning solar energy and has issued key directives to the Power Division.
The Prime Minister instructed the Power Division to promptly file a review petition with NEPRA to ensure full protection of existing contracts for current solar consumers. He emphasized that safeguarding the rights of those who invested under the prevailing solar policy is the government’s top priority.
He further stressed that the financial burden of 466,000 solar energy consumers should not be shifted onto more than 37.6 million consumers who rely on electricity from the national grid. In this regard, the Prime Minister directed the Power Division to formulate a comprehensive, balanced, and workable strategy.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reiterated that while the government strongly supports the promotion of renewable energy, policymaking must take into account the interests of all consumers to prevent any unfair burden on a particular segment of electricity users.
According to sources, the Power Division will soon present detailed recommendations on the matter to the Prime Minister.
