The UN Human Rights Council opened its 63rd regular session on 7 September, bringing renewed international attention to some of the world’s most serious human-rights emergencies.
The Council’s agenda includes discussions on Sudan, Myanmar, Afghanistan, Iran, Ukraine and Syria, among other situations requiring international scrutiny.
The session comes as UN investigators continue examining alleged violations connected to the conflict in Sudan, while the High Commissioner has separately warned that Myanmar’s human-rights crisis is deteriorating further.
The Council’s current session is scheduled to continue through 7 October 2026, with governments, UN experts and independent investigative mechanisms expected to provide updates throughout the month.
