Lahore (HRNW)- Pakistan Railways was unable to restore the main railway line in time after freight train derailments in the Yousafwala and Sukkur divisions of Sahiwal, resulting in the cancellation of eight passenger trains and causing significant inconvenience to travelers.
According to Pakistan Railways, rail traffic on the main line connecting Lahore, Faisalabad, Karachi, and Quetta remained suspended after freight trains derailed at different locations on Saturday and Sunday.
In view of the disruption, the departures of Karakoram Express (42 Down), Pak Business Express (34 Down), Karachi Express (16 Down), Millat Express (18 Down), and several other passenger trains were cancelled.
Railway officials stated that Economy Class Coaches 3 and 4, AC Standard Coaches 5, 6, 7, and 8, and AC Business Class Coaches 9, 10, and 11 scheduled to depart from Lahore would not operate.
Pakistan Railways apologized to affected passengers and announced that they could obtain a full refund of their tickets from the Lahore Reservation Office. On the instructions of Divisional Superintendent Railways Lahore, Inamullah, passenger facilitation staff were deployed at relevant railway stations to assist travelers. Passengers were also advised to contact Railways Inquiry Helpline 117 for further information.
Railway authorities later confirmed that restoration work had been completed and both the up and down railway tracks had been reopened for train operations.
It is pertinent to mention that railway traffic on both tracks had remained suspended following the freight train derailment the previous evening. Pakistan Railways once again expressed regret and apologized for the inconvenience caused to passengers.
